Solid, Liquid or Gas?

Science Ages 6–10

Solid, Liquid or Gas? teaches the three states of matter with everyday examples. Things like an ice cube, honey and steam drop down the screen, and children sort each one into the right bucket before it lands. After each choice, a short fact explains why, building real understanding rather than guessing.

How to play

  1. An item appears and starts to fall.
  2. Decide if it is a solid, a liquid or a gas.
  3. Tap the right bucket (or press 1, 2 or 3) before it reaches the bottom.
  4. Read the fact after each answer. It explains why. Later rounds include tricky ones like sand and honey.

Tips for learners

  • Solids keep their own shape. Liquids flow and take the shape of their container. Gases spread out to fill any space.
  • Sand pours, but each grain is a tiny solid.
  • Steam and water vapour are water as a gas.
  • The same thing can change state: ice (solid) melts into water (liquid), which boils into steam (gas).

For parents and teachers

Solid, Liquid or Gas? is part of Gamlet Learn, free learning games for children. It is designed for ages 6–10 and plays in short rounds that get gradually harder, with gentle feedback and a fact after each answer. There is no sign-up and we don't collect children's personal data. Scores are saved only on this device.
