Food Chain Builder

Science Ages 8–12

Food Chain Builder shows how energy flows through nature. Children build real food chains from forests, grasslands, ponds and oceans, starting with a plant and linking each animal to what it eats, up to the top predator. Each chain ends with a fact about the habitat it comes from.

How to play

  1. Look at all the living things in the puzzle.
  2. Tap the producer first: the plant or algae that makes food from sunlight.
  3. Then tap the animal that eats it, then the animal that eats that one.
  4. The top predator, which nothing in the chain eats, comes last.

Tips for learners

  • Every food chain starts with a plant or algae: these are producers.
  • Animals that eat plants are herbivores. Animals that eat other animals are carnivores.
  • The arrow in a food chain means "is eaten by".
  • If one link disappears, every animal above it is affected.

For parents and teachers

Food Chain Builder is part of Gamlet Learn, free learning games for children. It is designed for ages 8–12 and plays in short rounds that get gradually harder, with gentle feedback and a fact after each answer. There is no sign-up and we don't collect children's personal data. Scores are saved only on this device.
